Artist Statement
The creation of something that makes people feel is the most important thing to me as an artist. I don’t want people to look at the work and just think “Oh, that looks nice”. I want people to look and feel even an inkling of something they don’t feel often whether that be sadness, happiness, relief, or anger. They should feel something. The result is to make art which looks deeper than the surface. The aesthetics of the piece are important, but the meaning behind it is even more important.
I want people to fall in love with death, fall in love with the idea that we are simply mortal, and life is fleeting. The fear of death is welcomed, but the love of the shortness of life is embraced. Death can be beautiful, just like these paintings may be, but death is also scary, and so are these paintings. The act of making these works are cathartic, and I want the people who take in these works to feel catharsis as well.
